Answers: Dowry system is the payment in cash or some kind of gifts given to bridegroom’s family along with the bride at time of marriage or after marriage. It is a social crime and curse for every nation especially for the third world countries like Bangladesh. From the ancient times, female children had been considered inferior to the male ones in this sub-continent and Bangladesh has been affected much by that social custom. We only discuss that dowry system is hateful and disgraceful but people of all walks are more or less responsible for it. Mainly the rich people indirectly encourage the dowry system by offering a lot of money to the bridegroom in the belief that their daughters will be more and more happy in their husbands house. If the guardian of a daughter fails to fulfill the contracted demand to the bridegroom, the husband and his family jointly insult and misbehave with the bride. Consequently, she commits suicide. Sometimes she may be threatened with divorce. This destructive custom must be controlled without delay, otherwise our country will be as second hell.
